Introduction

Gramin Swayam Sewak Samaj (GSS) Sarlahi, registered under Institution Registration Act 2034 was established as a Non-Government Organization in 2051 B.S. (1994 AD) and it started performing limited micro-financial services since 2062/08/05 receiving the license from Nepal Rastra Bank under Financial Intermediary Act 2055. Since then it is performing social, economic, infrastructural development and microfinance programs benefiting socio-economically backward communities of the Sarlahi district.
The institution adopts a group approach to organize rural households under women groups, orient and train them in social and economic skills for raising social awareness and standard of livelihoods. The Organization implemented social and community advancement programs with the support and collaboration of The Asia Foundation, PACT, CARE, CSRC, BSP, PAF, INGOs, and with local DDCs and VDCs over the period (2051 up to now).
After the provision of the non-government organizations working as financial intermediaries from Nepal rastra Bank to become a class “D” Microfinance institution named “Grameen Swayam Sewak Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited” (GSLBSL),. GSLBSL became a class “D” microfinance institution with 35 individual promoter shareholders and 2 institutional promoter shareholders since 2075 Shrawan 30. Its Central office Hariwon 11, Sarlahi. GSLBSL can provide service networking within 8 districts of Provence no. 2. Out of two institutional promoter share, Grameen Swayam Sewak is the mother organization of “D” class microfinance. The entire program of Gramin Swayam Sewak Samaj has been duly handed over to the microfinance institution. Microfinance institutions have been formally started its microfinance transaction from 2075 Aswin 15.
