Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the South Asia region and in the world. Poverty is the main challenge of economic development in Nepal. Financial Institutions are established in Nepal with the motive to help uplift the economic situation of the socio-economically backward Nepali people. However, most of the finance institutions are established and concentrated in urban areas and run in conventional way. So, the rural poor have no access to the financial services. Many of the development agencies have attempted to create groups and run micro-finance programs but after the completion of their projects such groups are left unnoticed with no further idea and help. So GSSLBS has been designed in such a way to reach the most unreached clients of the remote Terai area of Nepal with some specific model and products. The main aim of this organization is to promote microfinance banking in economically and socially challenged community level so as to enhance economic situation of the rural poor.

Grameen Swayam Sewak Samaj (Village volunteer Society) (GSS) is registered with the office of the District administrative office Malangawa, Sarlahi under the organization registration Act 2043. Nepal Rastra Bank has licensed VVS as a financial intermediary as a non-government organization under the financial intermediary Act 2055. GSS has started its micro financing services from 20th Nov,2005 (5th Mangsir,2062 B.S.) from its Central Office at Hariwon 11, Sarlahi. VVS can serve its service networking within 2 districts (Sarlahi & Mahottari).

The central office of GSS is located at Hariwon-11, Sarlahi. GSSwould follow characteristics of “Grameen” model but would slightly vary from the traditional ones.  However, the organization will always follow the regulatory norms of NRB. Becoming more practical and competitive it would follow always profitable and viable models for sustainability of the institution.

Grameen Swayam Sewak Samaj shall be the promoter of the proposed Grameen Swayam Sewak Samaj Laghubitta Sanstha Ltd.

The purpose of this feasibility report is establishment of Grameen Swayam Sewak Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd with license of operation up to 10 districts of Nepal from Nepal Rastra Bank.
